Valentine's Day: 17 couples to be married

The San Mateo County Clerk-Recorder's Wedding Chapel will be busy today, with 17 couples signed up to tie the knot on Valentine's Day.

"Marrying people is one of the most heart-warming responsibilities of the job," Chief Elections Officer and Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder Warren Slocum said. "Valentine's Day in our office is like no other -- it's one long day of celebrations."

Couples electing to get married in the chapel need to have a marriage license and make appointments to use the chapel. The room fits up to 25 people, but with a live Internet connection, other guests can view the ceremony from their own homes.

Couples can also specify the person who they wish to marry them. That person needs to be deputized in advance by the clerk to perform the wedding ceremony.
